Help Delanee recover from Covid & Loss of Horses

We are reaching out to you on behalf of our resident trainer, Delanee Kahl, who has endured an unimaginable string of bad luck over the past few months. Everyone who knows Delanee knows she works unbelievably hard with attention and love for her clients and their horses. She was integral in getting our barn up and running last year and remains a vital resource for us and for many of our clients here at OBJS.

 

Late last Summer Delanee lost one of her geldings, Rio, to a stroke. Prior to his death, Delanee owned Rio for 20 years. In April her 17 year old mare Fiona sustained an injury while playing in her pasture and had to be euthanized. Delanee raised and trained Fiona from time she was six months old. At the beginning of May, Delanee suffered yet another loss when her 18 year old mare Starlight passed away unexpectedly in the night. It has been an utterly devastating time for her. Losing one horse is horrendous; three in a year is unheard of.

 

On top of all this terrible loss, this Spring Delanee became seriously ill with Covid and was unable to work for over 6 weeks—a bleak scenario for a self-employed horse trainer, business owner and single mom. Like most independent horse trainers she has no sick pay and she can't work from home. Every day lost is a day without income. Delanee still needs to pay for not only her own expenses but those of her horses including outstanding boarding fees, farriers and veterinarians.

 

We are taking the opportunity to try and help Delanee by raising money to help cover the cost of her outstanding vet bills for her 5 living and deceased horses, and to help alleviate the financial burden resulting from the loss of income during her illness and further compounded by the loss of those horses who were an integral part of her business.
