Help Del and Donna Fischer Through This Crisis
Donation protected
Hello,
My friends Del (pictured above) and Donna Fischer need our help. Del is a loving and caring son, husband, father, and grandfather. He works very hard every day to provide for and care for his family. Not only does he hold down a full-time job at a machine shop, but he also tends to his wife's passion for horses. Donna gives horseback riding lessons and hosts a variety of camps for kids throughout the year. Donna has recently had health issues of her own and "Cowboy Del" has had to do the majority of the farm chores and household duties. On top of the horses, they also raise pigs and chickens! Needless to say, there is a lot to do on their little farm.
Last Saturday (July 13th), Del and Donna took off for their much-needed vacation. They drove down to Georgia with friends to visit more of their friends. Their plans included swimming, hiking, sightseeing, a birthday celebration, meals together, and relaxing. They got in late Saturday night so they slept in a bit on Sunday, had brunch, and went swimming. Del got out of the pool a bit later and said he felt "heavy" and went to take a nap. That night after dinner, Del had gotten up 3 times in the night to use the restroom and each time he felt weaker and less control of his extremities. When Donna woke him the next morning to get ready for their day, he told her "the thing is, I can't move my arms and legs." She asked him when this happened and he said it got worse through the night. She got him out of bed and he "walked" to the bathroom on his knees with her help, by the time they got there he couldn't even hold himself up on his knees. With their friend Joe's help, Donna was able to get Del dressed and they put him in a wheelchair to get him to the car and took him to the hospital. While they were waiting in the ER, his blood pressure dropped. The paralysis kept moving up his body to his mouth so it was numb and tingling and hard to talk. He was moved to Neuro ICU. As the paralysis hit his diaphragm it caused the lower lobes of both lungs to collapse so they had to intubate him and put him on a respirator. They diagnosed him with Guillain-Barre' Syndrome.
He is getting 5 doses of IV meds every 23 hours to try to ease the symptoms of Guillain Barre Syndrome. Then they will go to a different route. Del also has pneumonia and is on antibiotics. They have had to suck the mucus out of his lungs several times. As indicated by his eye movements, he is in a lot of pain. They have him on fentanyl for the pain and drugs to keep him semi-sedated to calm him because he isn't understanding all that is going on, can't breathe on his own, and a nurse may have been too frank in describing to the family "worst case scenarios" in front of him.
There will be many ups and downs with his recovery of this disease and it could take him a year to be back on his feet. During this time and the recovery time, neither of them will be able to work, but the bills will continue to accumulate so they could use our help!!
Del and Donna put their trust in the Lord and know He is the Almighty Healer. Please keep them in your prayers, pray for patience, peace, and complete healing. This is going to be a very long and rough road but God does have it in hand.
Our church battle cry...Our God can, Our God will, and even if he doesn't we will worship Him.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts. Psalms 28:7
