Deja's Study Abroad in Ghana
Donativo protegido
Hello,
I am Deja Alexander and I am raising funds to support my goal of studying abroad in Ghana. The duration of the trip is June 24, 2019 through July 12, 2019.
I am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work degree at North Carolina State University. As a first-year traditional student, I excelled in my first semester studies and was offered an invitation to participate in the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work. Outside of my academic achievements, I am an active member in my community through organizations. These involvements include, but are not limited to, service at outreach centers as well as being involved with a Youth Relationship Violence Task Force.
I am motivated to study abroad because this is a rare service-learning opportunity. I am a first generation college student and would love to experience a cultural shock so that I can use this state of unfamiliarity to aid me in developing my awareness and competence. Once I begin practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I want to serve people of diverse backgrounds by advocating for them and engaging in social justice reforms, as well as providing problem-solving through clinical sessions. While in Ghana, not only will I have the opportunity to gain exposure to a unique society first-hand, but I will also be enrolled in 2 courses while abroad. The courses in which I will receive credit will cover the electives that I need to complete my program, which will be centered on globalization as well as culture and social justice.
Graciously, I was offered more than half of the cost for this experience through scholarships I applied for through my university, which completely covers the program fees related to my tuition and courses. I still need $3,200 more to successfully embark on this journey. Your donations will be contributed to costs for immunizations, airfare, meals, passport and visa fees. I appreciate anything that you are willing to give. I humbly thank you in advance.
Best Regards,
Dejanique Alexander
