Help Deirdre Find Stability: Housing, Health & Hope
Meet Deirdre: a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and a lifetime spent giving to others.
For years, Deirdre volunteered tirelessly through the Catholic Church, mentoring youth, serving her community, and even traveling to Appalachia to provide educational support to children in need. She has spent her life showing up for others. Now, she needs us to show up for her.
Deirdre is a disabled adult who has been without stable housing for nearly five years in the greater San Diego area.
She has battled cancer, undergone surgery on her leg, and continues to face a growing list of serious health concerns, all while navigating the exhausting and often impossible cycle of unstable living situations. Because she is constantly moving, she has been unable to maintain consistent care with any of her doctors. Her health is worsening as a result.
She is not originally from California, and since the passing of her father, she no longer has family support to lean on. She does not drink or use drugs. She is simply a good person in a very hard situation, holding on with everything she has.
Deirdre has one clear, humble goal: a stable place to call home for at least six months. A home where she can finally breathe, get back to her doctors, and one day soon see her elderly mother again in Illinois.
Here is where your help comes in.
We are actively working to find Deirdre a committed housing situation at or under $1,200/month in the San Diego area. Every single dollar raised goes directly to her, with funds used one of two ways:
- If a stable lease or housing arrangement is secured, money will cover her security deposit and initial living expenses.
- If a housing situation is not yet in place, funds will go toward extending her current motel stay while we continue the search.
I have been walking alongside Deirdre for several months now, and I can tell you firsthand, she is one of the most warm, empathetic, and resilient people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Others in our San Diego community will say the same, and we are all happy to speak with you personally. We can even connect you directly with Deirdre if you'd like to hear her story or, even better, if you have a housing lead that could help.
Please give what you can. Whether it's $10 or $500, every contribution brings her closer to stability, restored health, and the people she loves. If you happen to have a spare functioning phone that can access the internet, that would be great! No sim required, we can take care of that.
And if you can't give right now, please share. The right person seeing this post could change everything for her.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
