Perched at an elevation of 2,500 meters in the tranquil village of Chuplu Bhanjyang, within Khijidemba Rural Municipality of Okhaldhunga District, Nepal, Degeling Monastery has been a beacon of spiritual and cultural significance since its establishment in 1937 by Karma Sherpa. For decades, it has served as a unifying sanctuary for diverse communities, including Sherpa, Tamang, Sunuwar, Gurung, Newar, Bhujel, and Silpi peoples.
The catastrophic earthquake of 2015 left Degeling Monastery in ruins. Although the government did provide some financial assistance for reconstruction, the funds were insufficient to fully restore this cherished heritage site. Demonstrating remarkable resilience and unity, the local community came together, contributing their time, labor, and resources to initiate the rebuilding process.

The mission of Degeling Monastery extends beyond its physical reconstruction. The monastery is set to become a sanctuary for elderly individuals who are alone or seeking a peaceful environment in their later years.
