12/6/22 update:
Apparently, I misunderstood what was needed for my mom's burial. The fee for the least expensive plot is $3500. The part I'd not realized is that there's an "opening and closing" fee of $1500. It's outlined at the link below.
Bay Area Mortuary charges $2500 so the full cost is around $7500. I've upped the goal to $6990. I should be able to cover the remaining $510. A friend of mine suggested I create a GoFundMe since these costs are terrifying! Thank you Janie!
Original message from last week.
My mom died, holding my hand, on 11/27/22. In the moments before she took her last breath, I told her I'd do everything I can to continue her volunteer work and to accommodate her wishes for a low-impact, green burial in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The link below highlights the town known as Purissima. This cemetery offers "green burials" ONLY. Why? Cremation leaves a sizeable CO2 footprint (†see link at bottom). Burning bodies contributes to greenhouse gas build-up; she'd always been conscientious and made ecologically moral decisions.
The "town" is located about 30 miles north of Santa Cruz, near the coast, in a stunning part of Northern California. It's just 30 minutes drive from SFO airport. She wanted everyone to be able to visit her grave, and this location seems the most accessible.

Whether you can contribute or not, everyone who knew my mom is invited to join us in the ceremony, where we lower Dee into the ground in early December.
I visited Half Moon Bay on Friday 12/2/22 and picked a spot for her among the evergreens. We will likely plant a redwood tree above her grave since this is the most naturally occurring tree in the Santa Cruz mountains.
But I think we should plant an avocado tree above her burial plot too. Avocados were her favorite food. She lived off avocados at UCSC! Now perhaps, the avocados can live off her. Bwah-hah-hah-ha!!! Revenge of the avocados!
In all seriousness, can you help? This WILL be a memorial to remember.
