Decker is my 28-year-old Arabian and my best friend. For over half his life, he’s been a therapy horse, blessing everyone he’s around with his gentle spirit. He’s been by my side through so many of life’s ups and downs—the birth of my children, postpartum depression, several moves, divorce, and even the difficult years when I had to lease him out, unsure if I’d ever be able to afford him again. We’ve grown older together, both turning gray, and he’s the keeper of all my secrets.
Recently, Decker suffered a severe case of choke. I was able to pay his vet bill, but the emergency wiped out my financial cushion. Now, with a week left until my next paycheck and only getting paid monthly, I’m facing the reality that if anything else happens, I won’t have the resources to help him. Decker can no longer chew his food properly and needs a special diet, and there’s still a risk he could develop pneumonia. If that happens, he may need to be hospitalized or, heartbreakingly, put down—both of which are huge expenses I want to be prepared for.
I’m reaching out for support not because I can’t care for Decker, but because this unexpected emergency has left me in a tough spot as a single mom. I hope for understanding and kindness, not judgment. Any help—whether it’s a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing our story—means the world to us. Thank you for considering helping us through this difficult time.
