Help Debra Recover From Eye Surgery
Donation protected
Longtime Lake Arrowhead, California devotee Debra Allen, a Kriyaban since 2000, has volunteered at the Fullerton Temple for more than 25 years. She lives alone with a cat and a kitten.
She will be having surgery on her right eye soon, with surgery on her left eye at a later date, to correct macular pucker, a condition where a thin, transparent layer of scar tissue (membrane) forms on the surface of the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. Without this surgery, she will go blind.
Medicare will pay for the surgery, but not for someone to stay with her for 24-48 hours following the surgery, or for 6-8 weeks of follow-up care to cook, help her shower, take care of her cats, etc.
Please see the update on this page, which consists of a letter from Debra's doctor about her surgery and post-surgery care.
She also needs to hire drivers to take her to Palm Springs (about 70 miles) for the surgery and to Palm Desert (about 90 miles) the following day for a recheck.
Any assistance you can offer will ease the tremendous stress Debra is dealing with, and greatly aid her recovery.
