This GoFundMe is in the name of my Mother, Deborah, who henceforth will be addressed as Mom /Mother because calling her by her first name feels too weird even with the circumstances.
What Happened:
Earlier this year, the head of our 3 person household our Mother was diagnosed with degenerative hip disease and it's pretty bad. This previously un-diagnosed and debilitating illness resulted in her losing mobility and loss of her employment. While we were very fortunate to have some savings to utilize while awaiting her medical evaluations/ a surgery date- this sparse safety net was not enough to survive the horrors that current global events have wrought. It takes all of us working to maintain our rent and despite efforts while we navigate the new challenges in front of Mom's pending operations, we have fallen behind and cannot catch our footing to stay afloat.

When our Governor implemented statewide restrictions on 'non-essential' surgeries, it was right before Mom's doctors settled on finalization for her operation, thus our path forward for healing was upended like many others.
The resulting chain of tragedy continues to effect our small family to its core, as in the time since the moratorium, Mother has suffered from being pro-longingly bedridden! This includes but sadly is not limited too; loss of weight, swelling of the limbs, painful muscle spasms as well as bouts of various infections which only compound and prolong her road map to surgery and thus our financial security.
My Mother's spirit is stronger than her body, we are humbled by how she endures each days struggles with a level of dignity and grace the rest of us couldn't possibly imagine doing in her place. There are tears- but we continue to do what we can, however with everything seemingly falling around us we can't do it alone and now more than ever she needs extra support that crowdfunding might provide.
So we turn to you, the good folk of the world for not a hand out, but a hand up to get our dear mother standing strong again.
Our Donation goal is set to cover past rent to keep us out of the danger zone of possible evictions as well as a buffer amount going forward as our states hospitals and doctors ramp back up and Mom can finally get the procedures she has been waiting many, many months for.

A bit about my Mom:

I can only speak on what I have seen and what others have said to me.
My Mom has worked her whole life, working with both the elderly and metal health care services for most of it.
Mother has faced all hardships with a faith and determination rivaled by few and has acted as a moral compass for many she meets.
She befriends the downtrodden, giving the very shoes off her feet and offering help when nobody else might care. Mom also can dish out a heaping helping of sass or jokes when you least expect it. The neighborhood children call her auntie, and she's known forgiving treats as well as playing arbiter to disputes.

As a Essential Worker, I am actively working and serving my community members during these formidable times while acting as the family breadwinner and my mothers primary caregiver.
One of the hardest things I have ever had to bare witness to is seeing my Mother- one of the strongest people I have ever known, go through such prolonged agony. This has been the single greatest challenge I have ever faced and my friends, art hobbies and humor are what have kept me sane through everything. Despite all this, I will continue to do what I can to see my family through these trying times, as far as I am concerned, my Mother is doing the real heavy lifting.

A. Yes, of course! Sadly the hit in our collective income has us paying partial, but we always make the effort, our landlord has bills to pay same as we do!
Q. Have you always been renters?
A. We lost our family home of over 30 years in the wake of the 2008 housing crisis, we have been renters ever since and have been at the same location since re-rooting- it's been rough, and takes all of us working to keep the financial security here but at least we are together under one roof.
Q. I am sorry to hear about your troubles, but I am unable to offer any financial assistance but I am touched and want to do SOMETHING- what can I do?
