Subject: A new chapter in Upstate New York
Dear Friends,
I’m seventy-seven years old, and I’ve realized it’s time to reinvent my life. Not from scratch, but from everything I’ve lived, made, and carried over a lifetime as an artist.
As much as I have loved my twenty-seven years in Los Angeles, the city has become a place where I am merely surviving rather than creating. To restore my health and keep my art practice alive, I’ve decided to return to upstate New York. It’s a place I know well, and one where a sustainable, creative life is actually within reach for me.
But I cannot get there alone. Between a stolen catalytic converter (a parting gift from LA!) and the logistical mountain of moving fifty years of paintings across the country, this transition requires more than I can manage on my own.
I am setting a goal of $15,000 to help cover the essential costs of this move:
The Car: Repairing and transporting my vehicle so I have the mobility I need in New York.
The Art: Professional packing, crating, and climate-controlled transport for over 50 large-scale paintings.
The Landing: Travel, help with packing here in LA, and basic living expenses to get me safely settled.
Asking for financial support in this way is deeply humbling. However, this moment calls for honesty, and this is simply what is needed to make this transition possible.
If you feel moved to contribute, I would be profoundly grateful. If you aren’t in a position to give, simply sharing this note with others is a beautiful way to support me.
Thank you for being part of my life and for helping me protect my work and my future.
With so much love,
Deborah
