I am reaching out for help as I face a challenging medical journey. After more than two years of waiting, I finally have the opportunity to receive a surgery that is rarely offered in my state. Only one surgeon here accepts health insurance, and it has been a struggle to find someone who can help. Miraculously, I have located a surgeon out of state who accepts Medicare, and Medicare has just approved coverage for this much-needed procedure. My surgical consultation is scheduled for March 4, 2026, and I could likely have nerve decompression surgery on both hands/wrists within three weeks afterward, which will further reduce expenses. Unfortunately, my federal and state health insurance does not cover the travel and hotel expenses required for both the surgical consultation and the actual surgery dates. As a senior living on Social Security disability income below the poverty level, I simply cannot afford these extra costs on my own. My state health insurance will not pay for this out-of-state surgery, even though it is essential for my health and well-being. The surgeon's office has told me that Medicare will cover 80% of the reasonable surgical fees, and the doctor can perform both hand/wrist CTS surgeries on the same day. This will help reduce the need for additional hotel stays and medical transportation fees, as I won't have to return for a second procedure. Despite reaching out to my church and others for help with social media fundraising, I have not been able to get the support I need. These days, it seems many of us are underinsured, even with health coverage. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward medical transport travel, hotel stays, and post-surgery care. I may also need to hire a home care or nurse's aide to assist with hygiene, food preparation, and household tasks during my recovery. I feel awkward asking for help, but I truly need support to get through this challenging time. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference and help me access the care I need. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. God bless you all!
