Help Debbie Through a Tough Time

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Rachel and I'm fundraising to help out someone who has been a major influence in who I've become. Debbie was our nanny through my brother and I's entire childhood and upbringing. I remember the day she taught me how to tie my shoes and the endless days we spent at the zoo and swimming with her. After we outgrew needing someone to watch us while my parents were at work, she became a crucial part of my parents' business. So she has been an integral part of my life from childhood and through adulthood. She fully helped raise me and I cannot be more grateful for her. Now I want to help support her in a rough time.

To all of our surprise, in early November, Debbie was diagnosed with a very rapidly-growing breast cancer. Her surgery to remove the tumor was set for Dec. 3, but one of the doctors needed to reschedule and it will not happen until Dec. 15 now - all while the mass continues to grow, it causes more pain, pushing on a nerve that goes into Debbie's arm. The path after surgery is still unclear. Debbie has health insurance that will help with the cost, but her deductible and out-of-pocket maximum are quite high, so making it to the point when the insurance kicks in will be an expensive ordeal.

But here's the real kicker, Sunday Nov. 29, someone stole her car from her house in the night. Of all the times for someone to take her only form of transportation, this is probably the worst. Because of the cancer, she has to go to more doctors appointments and procedures than ever. Being that it's COVID times, there is a high priority for her to stay healthy, so public transportation is not a good option. Her car insurance will pay what they rate the car is worth at this time (based on Kelly Blue Book, etc ratings), but it will not be nearly enough to get another reliable car to get her to treatments. Plus, all while trying to handle her health and recover from surgery, she's gotta deal with finding a car during this pandemic, during the holidays. It's a lot.

So I'm wanting to help fill in the gaps in her health insurance deductible/out-of-pocket maximum and car insurance coverage. I'm not only asking the family and community of Debbie to donate what they can, but also my far reaching network to help out someone that I deeply care about. Debbie doesn't have much online presence, so I'm using my millennial skills to do what I can to help.

I think we can all take a second to put ourselves in her shoes and try to empathize with how this situation might feel. Let's give Debbie a hand and put some of our holiday dollars somewhere that will truly make a difference.

Thank you from my heart,

Rachel
