Debbie, my girlfriend’s mom, has always been a caring and loving presence in our lives. Just recently, after leaving her grandson’s birthday party, she experienced something no one should have to go through. While driving home, her car suddenly began to smoke. She quickly pulled over on a wide opening along Highway 108 and called me, clearly shaken and worried, to see if I could help figure out what was wrong. By the time I arrived just five minutes later, her car was already engulfed in flames. Thankfully, Debbie was able to get out safely and stay clear of the fire, but she had to watch as her vehicle of 15 years—filled with memories and sentimental value—was lost in the blaze. This car was not just a way to get around; it was her only means of transportation and a big part of her daily life. Losing it so suddenly has been a huge blow, both emotionally and practically. Debbie is a sweet, god-fearing woman who has always put others first. Now, she’s facing the challenge of rebuilding and finding a way to get back on her feet. We’re hoping to come together as a community to help her find a newer set of wheels and restore some normalcy to her life.
