I am one of Debbie’s nieces, and I am hoping to help my aunt get the critical procedures she needs as well as take the anxiety away of her everyday bills piling up.

My Aunt Debbie is 70 years old and has been working as a massage therapist for most of my life. She had to quit in 2024 due to slipped discs in her back and needing double knee replacement surgery, and now an unexpected artery surgery. She has applied for numerous remote positions that wouldn’t require the physical aspects she is used to, but she has been unable to secure a job/income. She has big medical needs and bills that have come to a head.

Unfortunately, her $906 Social Security check is not enough to pay for her medical needs, rent, insurance, nor the basic necessities she needs to live. She is in the process of applying for additional assistance but up until now she has not been a candidate due to working income and savings which is now depleted. 

She has recently been scheduled for surgery to clear a carotid artery blockage and will also need two knee replacements and possibly back surgery in the near future. She has past due medical bills and daily living expenses that were already a huge concern before knowing she had this significant artery blockage.

Aunt Debbie has always been a “giver.” I am hoping that this account will help to give back to her. Over the years, she has been a volunteer for many different nonprofit charities, a caregiver to family members, and friends. When she was able to get out and go, she would go to the local assisted living and nursing homes to help people with pain or teach jewelry classes.

The immediate need is to hopefully get Debbie closer to home from Arizona to Mississippi as well as to secure new housing. We want her to be closer to friends and family during these upcoming procedures where she won’t be alone. She is currently in Arizona where she doesn’t have support.

Aunt Debbie’s lease has transitioned to a  month to month lease, so I am hoping this GoFundMe will allow her to start moving and prepare for her upcoming surgery expenses.
