Help Debbie Herndon with Medical Expenses

Hi everyone. This is Susan Sharpe, formerly of Life of Virgina / Genworth and a long time friend of Debbie Herndon. After Debbie retired from Genworth, she took up her lifelong passion for horses and horseback riding and became the proud owner of her beloved Corazon (the Spanish word for Heart), pictured here, and another sweet boy named Solo. She's been taking riding lessons now for several years and has excelled beautifully. But unfortunately on Thursday December 2nd, 2021, in a freak accident, Debbie somehow came off of Corazon while riding that resulted in her sustaining severe head trauma. After being rushed to VCU Neuro/Trauma ICU, she subsequently suffered a hemorrhagic stroke that has left her severely brain damaged. Weeks later she remained unconscious and on a ventilator to breathe with a very grim recovery prognosis. I'm THRILLED to report however that on December 28th, miraculously, she came back to us!!! Although still somewhat vision-impaired and largely unresponsive on her left side, she is awake, breathing on her own and aware - even starting to talk! She was transferred to a brain injury rehabilitation center on New Year's Eve (my BEST New Years's Eve ever!) and is making tremendous progress with nearly constant OT, PT, Speech Therapy, etc. with the next big milestone being to get her off the feeding tube - she just tried her first meal, albeit puree, and did wonderfully! But Medicare limits will soon (2-3 wks) force her to move to a skilled nursing facility where we pray they have the resources to further her progress. Ultimately our hope is for her to return home to her husband David, her Great Danes Lacey and Boomer and her kitties (of whose count I've lost track of)! Over the next months, there will without doubt be many more needs - specialized medical equipment, likely round the clock RN / CNA care, house retrofits for accessibility, etc. that won't be covered by insurance.
For those of you know Debbie and have been fortunate to be the beneficiary of her unwavering compassion, kindness, and friendship, I ask you, if you have the means, to please consider helping Debbie and her family financially, and if you are unable, to please just keep Debbie in your thoughts and pray for her continued healing. Thank you for reading. Much love from Debbie, David, Michael, Mary, all of her furry/hairy babies and me!
