Hear Debbie Sing!Debbie is my roommate and one of the most inspiring people I know. She’s been in a wheelchair for years due to a bone disease, but she’s never let that stop her from living life to the fullest. Debbie is fiercely independent—she drives using hand controls and a special van with a hydraulic ramp and swivel seat. She loves going to church, singing, and sharing her story to encourage others. She even visits local nursing homes and independent living facilities to sing for the residents and lift their spirits.
Unfortunately, Debbie’s van, which is her lifeline to the outside world, has broken down and is beyond repair. Since Thanksgiving, it’s been in and out of shops, but no one has been able to fix it. I’ve tried to help by taking her places in my truck, but now my truck needs a new transmission. I do have another car, but it’s too low to the ground for Debbie to get into, and there’s no way to haul her 300lb wheelchair in it. This means Debbie has been homebound for over a month, unable to see her kids and grandson in Georgia, or do her own shopping. She’s had to cancel four singing events, and it’s been heartbreaking to see her so frustrated and isolated.
Debbie has a heart of gold and always looks for ways to bless others, even when she’s struggling herself. She believes that every setback is just the devil trying to keep her from doing God’s work, but she’s not giving up. With your help, we can get Debbie a new van so she can regain her independence, reconnect with her family, and continue spreading joy and hope wherever she goes. Please consider supporting this fundraiser—every little bit helps, and together we can make a real difference in Debbie’s life.
