My beautiful mom, Debbie Frisbie, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia a couple of years ago. She has always been the most selfless, kind, soft-spoken person I know. This disease is cruel, and we have watched it progress quite quickly over the last year, taking our sweet mom further away from us.
On February 2nd, she fell and broke her ankle. She spent 2 weeks in the hospital. She will have to be non-weight bearing on her right leg for 3 months. Due to the advanced dementia, this feels like an impossible challenge. She doesn't understand what has happened or why she is not at home. The hospital ended up hiring sitters to stay with her around the clock in order to keep her from getting out of bed and falling. She has been required to have in-patient rehab as there is just no way to manage her recovery at home.
This past Thursday, we were finally able to find a place about 40 minutes from home in Moultrie. Due to the fall risk, the nursing home is also requiring around-the-clock sitters. That cost alone is astronomical and is not covered by insurance. We currently have sitters staying with her at night, and the rest of us are rotating shifts during the day to make sure she is okay and not alone. Even that is a strain, since we all have full-time jobs and young children at home. We are exhausted emotionally, mentally, and financially.
Any help at all is appreciated. Whether you donate monetarily, volunteer time to sit with her, or just keep us lifted in prayer, your help would be greatly appreciated as we try to navigate this difficult path.
