My name is Debbie, and this is the truth about my story. I’ve always wanted to do something meaningful with my life, so I went to Adult Education, got my diploma, and graduated in 2010 and again in 2015. I was determined to keep going, so I enrolled at North West Career College. My first program was massage therapy, but after a month, I realized it was too hard for me because of my learning disability. But I didn’t give up. I switched to Medical Administration Assistant and graduated. I wanted to go into the Medical Assistant Program, but they asked me to take a computer class first. I did that for three months, then started the program. I was doing well with the online assignments, but I struggled with the hands-on work. The school put me on leave so I could get extra tutoring, and I worked hard to improve. Even after all that, when I tried again, I was told I wasn’t ready and my leave was extended. I kept showing up, never late, and took a two-hour bus ride every day. I never gave up, but eventually, I was withdrawn from the program. It broke my heart because I worked so hard.

Even after all that, I kept working. My learning disability doesn’t define my ability—I’m just slower than others. I’m starting online school tomorrow, and I’m proud that 38 of my credits will transfer. I want to finish what I started. The last two years have been especially hard. I lost my best friend and roommate just a month ago, and I’ve been dealing with school and personal loss at the same time. It feels like everything came down at once. I’m also facing housing challenges. I’ve lived in the same place for eight years, but it’s not safe for me. There are six people and three pit bulls in the house, and I’m always stressed out. I’m on a fixed income, and my rent keeps going up. I don’t drive, and I can’t afford to move. When my chance to move came, my housemates destroyed my paperwork. I’m reaching out for help because I don’t want to stay here any longer. I’m struggling with depression, but I’m still trying to rebuild my life one step at a time.

Your support would not only help me find a safe place to live, but it would also give me hope during a very challenging time. I’ve come a long way, and I’m doing my best to stay on a positive path. All I do is read and do homework, and I’m asking for help so I can keep moving forward. Thank you for listening to my story and for any support you can give.
