Help Debbie Fight Lung Cancer

Our staff here at Essential’s Massage & Facials of Summerfield are organizing this campaign for Debra Spears – our friend and coworker. It is with much sadness that Debbie was recently diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer.

A Tennessee native, Debbie moved to the Summerfield area about 7 years ago and has worked as a Licensed Massage Therapist for more than 15 years helping improve the wellness of her clients and friends. She has this amazing ability to take anyone’s stress away, while going above and beyond to provide a consistent, safe, and professional experience for all. Anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Debbie can attest to her big heart, her attentiveness and funny disposition along with her ability to always put everyone else’s needs and happiness before her own.

Debbie also struggles with other health issues as well, such as COPD, Neuropathy, High Blood Pressure and Type 2 Diabetes. Regardless of how bad Debbie felt she always put aside her own health needs to be there for her friends, coworkers, and clients. At the beginning of the summer things started to take a turn for the worse with Debbie as she was struggling to breathe, to eat, and seemed fatigued more and more each day. It wasn’t long before her primary doctor began running tests and the lung cancer was found.

Sadly, this was less than a month ago and Debbie is struggling more now than anyone could have anticipated. She is having to end her lifelong career as a massage therapist due to all the health issues. This decision does not come easy as this was Debbie’s only source of income. Not yet at the age to retire and with no savings in place, she is left with Social Security Disability as her only option for income and sadly it may take months before she is approved and is able to see any income.

We are putting together this GoFundMe Campaign in the hopes that we can help Debbie get through this extremely difficult time she is facing. Debbie always puts a smile on the faces of the people she is around and here at work we call her our “Birthday Cake Gal”! She made sure that every coworker had a beautiful and yummy cake on their special day! That reason and many, many more is why we want to ensure that she is taken care of during this time in her life. We are on a mission to ensure that she has transportation, a place to live, food, healthcare copays, prescriptions, and anything else that may come while she is battling late-stage lung cancer.
