Help Deb Beat Breast Cancer Again
Hello friends and family,
In Australia, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer over the course of their lives. Unfortunately for Deb, she was diagnosed with a high grade tumour in her left breast nearly 5 years ago to the day.
Despite being a single mother living in Inverloch (100km from the nearest oncology ward), Deb underwent a lumpectomy procedure, chemotherapy and radiotherapy whilst still continuing to work to support herself and her son Joel, who also needed to be in Melbourne for frequent hospital visits for his own medical conditions.
5 years later and Deb has now received the news that she never expected to hear again- she has another lump in her left breast and once again it was invasive adenocarcinoma- likely a recurrence. Deb will again need to undertake radical surgery- this time a double mastectomy, and then will need to complete a course of chemotherapy. This time however is different- we’re going to be here to help her out in any way possible!
Those of you who know Deb know that she is not the type of lady to ask for anything, but we know that this is going to take a toll on her financially given that she has not been able to re-accumulate the amount of sick leave that she will need to cover her treatment and that she is no longer receiving financial assistance for Joel.
As her daughter and son-in-law, we have offered for Deb to come and stay with us in Melbourne whilst she undertakes her treatment so that she doesn’t have to do this alone.
We are kindly asking her friends and family to dig deep to cover the inevitable costs of travel, time off work, and other treatment related expenses so that Deb won’t have to worry about anything other than getting herself 100% better. No amount is too small, and we would both like to sincerely thank everyone who is able to help out. This GoFundMe page will also be used to update people on Deb’s ongoing fight with cancer, so that people who live far away can keep track of how she is doing.
We thank you all so much for your support in these tough times,
Tiffany and Timothy Walsh
