Hello, my name is De’Ashia Jones. I’m a senior at Howard University, majoring in Political Science with a minor in African American Studies, on a pre-law track. It has always been my dream to attend Thurgood Marshall School of Law and become a civil rights attorney and activist serving the community in Harris County, Texas.
Choosing Howard was the best decision I’ve ever made, not just for my education, but for my growth, purpose, and vision. Here, I’ve found myself. I’ve found my voice. And I’ve started building the future I’ve always imagined.
During my time at Howard, I founded the Hope Foundation (Helping Others Prevail in Each and every way possible), a nonprofit organization committed to serving the unhoused and underserved in marginalized areas in Washington, D.C. We’ve distributed food, clothes, blankets, hygiene products, and more, providing warmth, nourishment, and dignity to those who need it most. This is just the beginning. My ultimate goal is to return to Houston and open a homeless shelter to continue this work in my own community.
But right now, I’m facing a financial hurdle. Unexpected university fees have created a gap that I simply cannot cover on my own. I’ve tried all other resources and options and now, I’m asking for your help so I can cross the finish line.
I have come too far and started too much to stop now. I will graduate from Howard. I will continue paving the way for the young Black girls and boys back home who see their futures in mine. But I can’t do it alone.
Any amount you can donate, or even just sharing this post, means the world to me. Thank you so much for your support, encouragement, and belief in my journey.
With love,
De’Ashia Jones ❤️
