We are fundraising to support my mom during her treatment and recovery from colon cancer.
In September, my mom (DeAnne Close) was diagnosed with colon cancer, found during a routine colonoscopy.
At first, she was told it was a surgical fix. To be sure, given the quality of medical care available here in Hershey vs. Red Bluff, she sought a second opinion with the hope of doing the surgery here in November.
It’s a good thing she came here: after seeing the doctor in October, she learned that it had spread since the initial finding and chemo/radiation would be necessary before surgically removing the tumor.
In the next two weeks, she will be having a PET scan and then will begin chemo immediately afterward.
Though they didn’t want to ask for it, I know my parents could use support while my mom is off work for several months (it’s already been six weeks). Yes, she will eventually receive some short-term disability pay, but it won’t cover everything.
Additionally, with the new year brings a new deductible. My mom had already done open enrollment and cannot change her plan to better suit her needs while she undergoes treatment.
My dad will be returning to California soon to resume his responsibilities there, and my mom will remain here for treatment until late Spring/early summer.
My parents are so generous and help so many people - my hope is that we can surround them with love and support during this difficult time and help ease their stress while my mom recovers.
