Hi my name is Asia and I am the youngest daughter of Deanna Pointe. My supportive cousin helped me write this as this is a difficult time for my sisters and I.
Dear Friends and East Van Community,
We’re reaching out with an important and heartfelt update about our beloved Deanna Pointe—known to many of you as Aunty Dee. She’s not only a sister, mother, and grandmother, but also a cherished friend and confidante to countless people across East Van.
Recently, Aunty Dee was diagnosed with Leukoencephalopathy, a serious condition that affects the brain. While she may have difficulty expressing herself verbally, she remains deeply aware, connected, and filled with her trademark warmth and spirit.
This diagnosis has changed our world, but not our hope. As a family, we are doing everything we can to ensure Aunty Dee receives the specialized care she needs. We understand that the healthcare system is stretched, so we’re stepping in to be her advocates—working on a long-term recovery plan and doing everything possible to eventually bring her home and get her the in-home care that is needed.
In the meantime, your support is more vital than ever. Whether it's time, prayers, or contributions, every bit helps. Specialized care, emotional support, and community love are the real medicine that will carry her through this time.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and strength that’s already been shared. Please continue to hold Aunty Dee in your thoughts as we move through this journey together. With your help, we can make sure she continues to feel the love of her community and receives the best care possible.
With heartfelt appreciation,
The Family of Aunty Dee
