My name is DeAnna, and I’m reaching out for support as I face the most challenging time of my life. I have lived with COPD for years, but after contracting COVID four times, my condition worsened dramatically. The last infection led to a stroke, and now I have fibroids in my lungs and need a double lung transplant. These health setbacks have left me unable to work, and I recently lost my disability benefits because I couldn’t provide the required documentation for how I spent my savings.
Right now, I’m living with my son, who has been my main caregiver, but he recently lost his job. My church community has helped as much as they can, but those resources are nearly exhausted. I receive a small retirement income, but it’s not enough to cover my basic needs. I need help with transportation to UC Davis and UCSF Parnassus Hospital for ongoing treatment. Although I have a car, I can’t drive myself, so I rely on others to help me get to appointments. I’m struggling to keep up with my car payment and insurance, as well as utilities like phone, electric, and internet. My car payment is over $500 a month, and my insurance alone is $200, my only income is $752 retirement. That leaves nothing for food, gas, and phone.
Because I lost my disability, I now have to pay out of pocket for some of my medications that are keeping me alive. I have urgent bills coming up, including a car payment that was already on a payment arrangement and a phone bill due soon. If I can’t get my car payments caught up I’m going to lose my car. Any support will help me cover these essential expenses and keep me stable while I wait for a transplant and work toward recovery. Thank you for considering a donation or sharing my story.
