Help Deaf Children In Uganda Acquire An Education

We are reaching out to you to raise funds to help a school for deaf and hearing impaired children in Kampala, Uganda

As a result of the lockdown, many of these children’s parents have lost their jobs.  This has severely impacted their children; especially those were recently implanted with Cochlear implants or fitted with hearing aids, who need intensive speech therapy. 

The wearing of masks and social distancing; makes it even harder for these children, who depend on visual cues to comprehend spoken language.  Speech therapy services are now needed more than ever.  Many of the children have regressed considerably in their development – and without further assistance will continue to do so, which will have an impact on their long term learning, educational development, emotional development and their chances of a better future.

With the recent partial lifting of the Lockdown, Hear His Voice Uganda has planned to pilot remote speech therapy services.  They have two therapists who have been trained to mentor and coach parents to offer quality therapy at home. 

Parents will be coached remotely by the therapists in listening, comprehension, expression, cognitive and communication goals for their children. The Pilot schedule was launched on June 15th and is intended to last for the rest of the year, as long as the schools are still closed. 

To deliver this program , the school need to acquire equipment to help facilitate with virtual speech therapy coaching and this is reliant on good internet connectivity.

These needs are as follows:

Purchase of two laptop computers with good recording and storage functionalities: Each costing 2,900,000. 5,800,000 Ugx (£1245)
Internet router 250,000 Ugx (£60)
Monthly internet bundle with a good signal 224,000 per month for six months 1,344,000 Ugx (£300)
LCD projector 1,700,000 (£375)
Monthly support for two therapists 1,500,000 per month for 6 months 9,000,000 (£2000)
 
If you can help us to raise funds for the above equipment, the school will be able to offer up to 30 personalised therapy session per week. This translates into 680 Therapy session for families to participate in through the end of this year. 

Please help us allow children with hearing impairments in Uganda reach their full potential.
