My name is Quanisha and I'm raising money for my sister's safe recovery and survival after her life was nearly taken from her.
Last Wednesday night, September 18, my dear sister DD, a Black trans woman, was lured to an isolated spot by a man who misrepresented himself as trustworthy. He stole her phone and threw her purse and its contents off a rooftop before brutally attacking, assaulting, and attempting to murder her at knifepoint.
This is DD's second time being accosted and attacked in 4 months. Prior to these events, she was already dealing with tremendous stress and lack of income from being unjustly fired at her job due to medical issues outside of her control.
I'm urging everyone to donate and share resources so that she's able to focus 100% on her healing. She needs funds for a new phone, replacement ID documents, groceries, therapy, basic needs, medication, and life expenses. No one deserves to experience what she went through or to feel unsafe moving through the world. I need your help bolstering and supporting her.
With the astounding number of missing and murdered Black people in NYC and specifically Brooklyn, especially in popular queer areas, it's time for the community to rally. It's common knowledge that Black trans women have a life expectancy of 35. Many people in the trans community have lost at least one and likely several friends & family members to transphobic violence. This week, my family member almost became a statistic.
I'm urging everyone who sees this to donate and share so DD can focus on her recovery and I can focus on supporting her.
