Help D.D. Get Heart Surgery

D.D., a Smith College alum/Community member (AC ‘19) needs support covering medical expenses and lost wages for an upcoming major surgery. Our friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a sister, aunt, wife, and kind community member. She loves to draw, write, and paint. Her doctors discovered a congenital heart condition in 2012 and she has been monitoring it for the past 13 years.

In 2022, it became necessary to manage the condition with medication. Her medical team has decided it is now time to correct it with surgery on March 25th, 2025. While she has health insurance and has saved as best as she can for this occasion, the out-of-pocket costs are still significant.

We have the opportunity to help her recovery by contributing toward her living expenses while she is unable to work for two months, and toward her deductible, copays, coinsurance, and other out-of-pocket costs for her surgery and subsequent medical care. Her situation is not just a personal hardship but part of a broader systemic issue. Black Women face persistent disparities in healthcare access and affordability.
