Help Dayda and her kids find housing ASAP!

In July 2023, Dayda and her two kids were victims of a retaliatory eviction after they made complaints to the City inspector about their poor living conditions. Although the City found multiple violations and the eviction was dismissed, Dayda and her family were forced to relocate because their landlords sold the property. The family was able to move in with a friend while most of their belongings were put into storage or discarded. Throughout this entire distressing experience, Dayda has been working a full time job to save enough money to rent a house. However, Dayda and her kids were recently kicked out of the friend’s home and need to find new living accommodations ASAP.

Dayda is a single mother taking care of two kids under 14. She makes a daily commute to work from Clinton Township to the east side of Detroit, where she works full time as a security guard at a car manufacturing facility. Dayda's daughter attends school full time and maintains outstanding grades, while Dayda’s son continues to attend school but is struggling both emotionally and behaviorally due to the hardships the family has endured. Dayda remains hopeful, but the ongoing instability and most recent displacement has taken a massive toll on the whole family. Currently, Dayda and her kids are staying with another friend temporarily until other accommodations can be found.

More often than not, single black mothers are evicted from their home without any support or resources to fall back on. Dayda is one of many to experience this particular violence. No one deserves to be put out on the streets. Everyone deserves safe, affordable and comfortable housing.
