I am writing this message on behalf of Dawn Bowers (Baker) who recently suffered the sudden loss of her brother, Mike Baker.

Mike was a genuine, sincere and caring man, who loved his family and friends. He held a lifetime passion for airboats, his favorite show (Knight Rider) and animals, especially his two beloved dogs who are being rehomed.

He left a lasting impression on anyone who crossed his path and made friends anywhere he went.

Mike, who was just 51 years old, living in Florida, suffered from health problems over recent years. He was recently released from the hospital after battling an infection and seemed to be doing much better, when he suffered complications and was readmitted. He improved, and was then scheduled for a minor, and very routine procedure. On April 13th, Mike unexpectedly passed while under anesthesia, during that procedure.

Because Mike’s passing was so unexpected it has left his family with a significant financial burden. He had not carried any life insurance and he had limited health insurance which had not covered very much of the cost of all of the hospitalizations and the various necessary treatments for his diabetic and dialysis issues.

All while grieving the loss of their loved one, Mike’s sister, Dawn and his mother are also left with urgent financial responsibilities. This includes not just his end-of-life expenses, but Dawn has had to miss work, travel between Pennsylvania and Florida all while trying to handle these arrangements, and other uncertainties, such as medical bills, Mike’s home mortgage and vehicles. Dawn is also potentially facing legal expenses to help navigate and assist with his assets. The family is hoping to bring Mike home to Pennsylvania (his home state) where they would like to hold a funeral service for him.

In addition to all of this, Mike and Dawn’s mother is elderly and facing urgent health concerns. Dawn is trying to help their mother as soon as possible with either potentially entering assisted living or moving back to Pennsylvania, now that she can no longer rely on Mike for assistance. In reality, the family does not know how many expenses and hurdles they will need to tackle.

Any support, donations, even the smallest amount, would help this family tremendously. Dawn is also looking for guidance with legal matters concerning Mike’s estate, and arrangements for her mother who is no longer able to care for herself. Anyone who could help point her in the right direction or provide general advice for these uncertain times, would be very much appreciated.
