If you know me, then you know I have been fighting Stage IV colorectal cancer for some time now. I have always shared my story in hopes that I can help other people not meet the same fate as me at such a young age and struggle like I have. I did return to work in my office last month after working from home for two years, but with recent events and set backs I have had to make the difficult decision to go on disability beginning the 28th of this month. I do have disability coverage through my employer, but it only pays 70% of my monthly income for 12 weeks. In the event I’m out of work longer than that then I’ll only get 50% of my monthly income. It also does not start paying until I’m out of work for 14 days and sadly being this early in the year, I don’t have much vacation to use and two weeks with no income is going to be so difficult. My children help me out in every way they can, but they should not have to bare all my burdens. I have already lost my car and don’t want to risk losing my home too. I’ve worked so hard all my life to provide this home for my kids and the thought of losing it is more than I can bare. I truly dislike asking for help since so many of you have already been so gracious in your donations but even just a little to help me get through those 2 weeks and not miss a mortgage note or maybe pay a few things off will make this transition to a fixed income much easier.
