Dawn has been out of work since mid-April after sustaining a traumatic brain injury caused by a concussion that occurred while on-the-job. For anyone that does not know, Dawn is a single mother to a college age son and cares for her elderly mother. She is solely responsible for the household with no financial help from anyone. Since getting hurt she has received less than half her salary from Workers Compensation and was denied short term disability. Unfortunately, she has no recourse with short term disability and worker's compensation refuses to increase payments. During this difficult time, while juggling the household on a reduced income, she lost her medical coverage as she was unable to keep up with the Cobra payments. She is now responsible for all medical bills her and her son incurred from May 2021 to present. It's estimated these medical bills will total $11,000. On top of that, she just received notice that her landlord of seven years is not renewing her lease and she must move out as-soon-as-possible. Her injury has caused debilitating headaches, balance issues, memory loss and loss of cognitive abilities. It is a very good possibility she will now have to retire six years short of her full pension. Thereby having to wait another 6 years to collect said pension that will be half of what is expected due to an early retirement penalty.  Dawn is in a very tough spot and is too proud to ask for help but she needs it. In Dawn's 24 years of law enforcement service she has always gone above and beyond to assist anyone she could. I have no doubt she's helped you. So I am asking that we now do the same for her.
