Help Dawn Lang Through Ovarian Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Amy Boyer, and I am raising funds for my mama, Dawn Lang.

On August 9, while testing to discover why she was having gastrointestinal issues, doctors found an 8-inch mass in Dawn's lower abdomen. Additional testing was done, and it was declared Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer the next day.

The following Friday, August 19, Dawn underwent surgery to remove the mass. She had an excellent team of highly respected doctors. After six hours of surgery, they removed 90% of the cancer cells, the affected lymph nodes, both ovaries, and a section of her bowel - which was able to be fully reconstructed.

As of today, September 1, Dawn is still in the hospital. She is recovering well, but her bowels are taking their time to heal. We hope that she will be able to come home this week.

Shortly after she can return home, Dawn's chemo journey will begin. Doctors are hopeful chemo will take care of that last 10% of cancer, but another surgery will be needed if it does not.

Dawn is the full-time caregiver to her husband, Dave, who has Parkinson's and cannot meet most of his daily needs without assistance. Dave has been in a Memory Care Assisted Living facility since the day before Dawn's surgery and will be coming home on September 7. Dave's brother Bob has generously offered to fly to Wisconsin to assist Dave the week he comes home from respite care.

Dawn and Dave are supported financially by the Iris program for Dave's Parkinson's needs. They will have part-time in-home care, however, Dawn will lose her income while undergoing her cancer treatment and recovery.

I was able to fly out from Los Angeles the day after my mom was diagnosed and have been here since but I will have to return home on September 14. I will be back in December, if not sooner.

Everything from now on is unknown - how long chemo will last, how much assistance Dawn and Dave will need, how much money everything will cost, and what things will look like this time next year.

Dawn is incredibly kind, caring, and selfless. This news has devastated our family, but she is also stronger than she knows, and we are hopeful for a full recovery.

Anything you are able to give is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your support.
