Help David with medical expenses from hit-and-run
Donation protected
On October 4th a good friend of mine, David Levenson, became the victim of a hit-and-run. He was on a bike ride with his wife, Nicole, when he was side-swiped by a truck and trailer. The driver did not stop after the accident and police have been unable to identify the vehicle. Due to the seriousness of his injuries and without being able to locate the driver who hit him, David and Nicole have been stuck with over $20,000 in medical expenses.
If you in a position to help with their expenses PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a donation. Additionally, if you know anything about this incident or recognize the vehicle in the picture below please let us know.
Here is a note from David's wife, Nicole:
My and husband and I are avid cyclists and have competed in Ironman triathlons across the Bay Area. On Sunday October 4th 2020 my husband, David, and I were cycling on the 92 heading East, leaving Half Moon Bay when at 12:20pm he was side swiped by this silver truck and trailer. There is very little bike lane and while David tried to stay upright, the trailer made contact several times sending David out of control where he crashed and slid 40 feet, shattering his clavicle, tearing a hip flexor and leaving him with road rash. I chased after the vehicle screaming and waving my arms "YOU HIT HIM" but the vehicle did not stop. After assessing the damage, it is clear that his helmet saved his life.
We took an ambulance to Stanford Hospital where he was examined by the medical team and treated for his road rash. It was determined by an ortho M.D. that he would need surgery to repair his shattered clavicle. Unfortunately the surgery date was 4 days after the accident, Thursday October 8th, where they installed plates and pins for his clavicle. David will also need extensive physical therapy over the next several months for his torn hip flexor and right now it is painful to walk. He has already missed 2 weeks of work.
Local law enforcement are involved, but have been unable to identify the license plate as of yet. It is devastating to know that without this minor detail, justice might not be served.
This whole process was extremely draining and emotionally traumatizing. This accident could have been much worse and I am so thankful that my husband is still here with us today.
So far we are looking at a medical deductible and out of pocket medical expenses of $13,000, ambulance expenses of $4,000, and $3,000+ for additional unforeseen medical expenses. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
With gratitude,
The Levensons
