My name is David, and I was born with Hemophilia A, a factor VIII deficiency that has shaped my life in many ways. Because of this condition, I developed severe osteoarthritis in both ankles by the age of 26. Now, my ankles are bone on bone, and the pain and limitations have only gotten worse over time. Simple daily tasks around the house have become a struggle, and I’ve had to give up so many of the things I love. Walking, running, and even just going to the grocery store are now incredibly difficult, often leaving me unable to walk for days afterward. My world has gotten smaller, and it’s been especially hard not being able to be as active in my little girl’s life as I want to be.
I learned about ExoSym braces through a friend in the Hemophilia community who introduced me to someone with a story just like mine. After going through the ExoSym program, they were able to walk and live like a normal person again. For the first time in years, I have real hope that I could get back to the life I miss—spending time outdoors, hiking, fishing, hunting, cooking, going on food adventures, and simply enjoying car rides through the back roads. Most importantly, I want to be able to physically participate in my daughter’s life and make memories with my family and friends, which I’ve had to limit for so long.
Unfortunately, ExoSym braces aren’t covered by insurance, and getting them means traveling to Gig Harbor, WA for a 5-7 day program. This includes out-of-pocket costs for the braces themselves, flights, hotel, transportation, food, and the physical therapy I’ll need afterwards to adjust and get the best results. I can’t begin this journey until I have the funds available. I’m reaching out for help because I truly believe this will change my life for the better.
