Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
My name is David, and I am humbly reaching out to you in a time of great need. As many of you know, life can be unpredictable, and sometimes it throws more at us than we think we can handle. I find myself in such a situation now, and I am turning to you for help and support.
My Battle with Cancer:
A few years ago, I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. The journey to overcome this aggressive cancer was one of the toughest battles of my life. I underwent a grueling treatment regime that included surgery, radiation and countless sessions of speech and occupational therapies. While I am incredibly grateful and fortunate to have survived this ordeal, it has left me with significant challenges that I am still grappling with today.
As part of my treatment, I underwent microvascular surgery, which involved a skin graft. This procedure, while life-saving, has resulted in lasting complications. I now struggle with the ability to taste accurately, and manipulating food in my mouth has become a daily challenge. The risk of choking on unchewed food is a constant and frightening reality.
The Impact on My Career:
Before my diagnosis, I spent over 25 years working in the hospitality industry. I loved my job, my colleagues, and the joy of serving others. However, due to my condition, I am no longer able to continue in my profession. This loss has not only impacted me emotionally but has also had severe financial consequences. My savings were depleted during my treatment, and I have been unable to work since.
A New Challenge: Multiple Sclerosis
Just when I thought the worst was behind me, life threw another curveball. I was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic illness that affects the central nervous system. The symptoms have already started to manifest, adding to the physical and emotional toll on my body and mind. The fatigue, pain, and mobility issues associated with MS have made it even more difficult to manage my daily life and responsibilities.
Financial Struggles:
While I am currently awaiting a decision on my application for disability benefits through the Social Security Insurance Program, the financial strain has become overwhelming. I am in serious delinquency with every one of my financial obligations, from medical bills to everyday living expenses. The burden I have placed on my family, especially my parents who should be enjoying their retirement, is more than any parent should have to bear. Their unwavering support has been my lifeline, but I know it is not sustainable.
My Humble Request:
As difficult as it is for me to ask for help, I have learned that sometimes we must swallow our pride and reach out. I am humbly asking for your assistance during this incredibly challenging time.
