Help David Scheff Heal and Recover
Donation protected
My name is Kristy Newton, and I am raising money for my close friend’s husband, David Scheff, who has been working for Scheff Logging for the past 28 years. He loves being in the woods and working with his family.
Over the last couple of months, David has been trying to stay off his feet to allow them to heal. He was diagnosed with neuropathy in his feet and hands about nine years ago, which initially caused pain with pins and needles sensations. Now, he is unable to feel his feet or hands.
About a week and a half ago, David became very sick but didn’t think much of it at first. After several days of vomiting, he made an appointment at the local hospital to find out what was happening. Following numerous X-rays and tests, doctors discovered that he had an infection due to osteoarthritis in the bone of his foot. He was then transferred to Duluth Essentia, where a specialist in neuropathy examined him.
Upon arrival in Duluth, the doctor explained that his foot was infected. After evaluating him in the operating room, the doctor found that the bone looked healthier than expected and thought there might be a small chance of saving his foot. David ended up staying in the hospital for about three nights, receiving IV medication and undergoing multiple surgeries to try to preserve his foot.
Now he is at home and is non-weight bearing on that foot while continuing to take a heavy dose of antibiotics to aid in its healing. David needs to have multiple dressings changed every day and will have to return to Duluth every week for the next eight weeks.
Given the current situation, David is unable to work. As a result, we are starting a GoFundMe account to help cover the expenses of medical visits and everyday bills.
If you are unable to donate, please send healing thoughts and share this message with your friends.
