Hello everyone,
My name is David, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help after Hurricane Melissa tore through Westmoreland Parish, leaving my home in ruins.
This storm changed everything in just a few hours. The roof of my home was completely blown off, leaving everything exposed to the rain and wind. The front gate was ripped from the ground, and a large tree fell across the entrance. Inside, the flooding destroyed most of the furniture and household items, and the small storehouse was completely destroyed — everything we had worked hard to build over the years is now gone or damaged.
This home means so much more to me than just four walls. My father built this house before I was even born, and it has always stood as a symbol of his love, hard work, and dedication to our family. He’s no longer here with us, so seeing the home he built — piece by piece, with his own hands — damaged so badly has been truly heartbreaking. It feels like part of him, and the memories we shared, were swept away with the storm.
This is also the home where I brought my first child after becoming a father — the same home where I grew up, now filled with two generations of memories. Every corner holds a piece of our story, and it breaks my heart to see it in this state.
We have been trying to clean up and recover what we can, but the damage is too much to handle. The most urgent need right now is repairing the roof so the house can be safe and livable again. Without it, each new rainfall brings more damage and makes recovery even harder.
The funds raised through this campaign will go toward:
- Urgent roof repairs
- Repairing all significant damages inside and outside
- Removing the fallen tree and repairing the front gate
- Replacing essential furniture and household items lost in the flood
- Rebuilding the small storehouse that was destroyed
