David McGovern is a beloved member of the Crux Climbing Center family, Crux community, and greater Austin climbing community. Recently David found out that he has prostate cancer.
We are hosting this GoFundme to help support David while he undergoes treatment to fight off this cancer. David has given so much to our community. You might have met him when he offered to belay you at Crux or during one of our Family Fun Days or BETA Program days. Maybe he's guided you out at Enchanted Rock. Maybe you've bonded over your next climbing trip to his favorite place to climb, Wind River Range. He's given us plenty of tips and pearls of wisdom over the years and brought us even more joy with his infectious attitude towards life.
When asked about how he's handling the news and stress, he told us it's just another expedition in life - you have to take it one step at a time. Even with climbing, even with cancer he believes that one must engage in and follow along rather than oppose. In this way, there are no obstacles only opportunities.
These funds will help support David through:
- Medical Expenses. David will need nine weeks of radiation starting 11/29 that run Mon-Fri each day.
- Follow Up Appointments and Medications.
- Life Expenses. David may need to take off time during this treatment, so any remaining funds will be used to have a restful recovery and purchase necessities such as food and transportation.
We hope to use this page to update everyone on David's progress throughout his new expedition.
