Dave Has Always Given—Now It’s Our Turn

We are reaching out to support our beloved friend, David Nedd—a man who, through his work at 45 Christopher Street, has become family to so many of us. Dave has a gift for connecting with everyone he meets, leaving each person richer for the encounter.

Dave first began working at 45 Christopher in 1989, some 36 years ago when he was just 25 and starting out in life. Though he later left to pursue a career with the NYPD, he continued to serve our community while walking a beat in Greenwich Village as an officer in the 6th precinct. During his years working as an undercover detective, many of us lost touch with him, but after being injured on the job, fate brought him back into our lives. For nearly the last decade, Dave has once again been part of our building—dedicated, steady, and always ready with kindness.

To know Dave is to love him. He is more than just a hardworking employee; he is generous with his time and spirit. Moreover, Dave is always at the ready with warm words of encouragement, an infectious laugh, and has the special gift for imparting wisdom, comfort, and reassurance. Dave can also light up any room with his smile, a special trait passed to him by his mother Lulu who is now 86 years young and the matriarch of a loving family that helped make Dave who he is.
Above all else, for decades, Dave has been there for us in ways that go far beyond his job.

Now, Dave faces serious health challenges that have left him unable to work and burdened with mounting debts flowing from his medical afflictions. The overwhelming cost of living in New York and complicated family circumstances have only deepened the strain. Yet even in hardship, Dave finds joy in the prides of his life—his two beautiful daughters, Allexa & Allyssa and especially, the most recent addition to his family, his granddaughter Ava, who brings him happiness no material thing could ever replace.

This is our moment to come together as a community for someone who has given us so much. With our support, Dave can ease his financial burdens, regain his full independence, and focus on recovery—whether or not his health allows him to return to the work he has long loved at the place which is like a second home to him.

By contributing to this effort, we not only help Dave but also strengthen the bonds of friendship and community that he has always embodied. As Yeats wrote: “Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends.” Let us honor Dave by showing him the same kindness and generosity he has shown to so many of us.
