Help David After a Devastating Hit-and-Run
On Tuesday, February 17 at approximately 9:40 PM, my brother, David J. James, was the victim of a hit-and-run accident at Hwy 90 and Herndon in Rosenberg, Texas, near Little Caesar’s and Shipley’s.
David was on an electric scooter, just minutes from his home, bringing groceries back to his family. He remembers hearing someone yell something at him — and then he was struck from behind by a vehicle. He never saw the driver or the car.
After the impact, David somehow managed to stand up. When his wife arrived a few minutes later, he was gathering the groceries that had been thrown into the street. He looked shaken and injured — likely needing stitches in his arm — but he was awake and talking. To anyone passing by, he may have appeared “okay.”
He was not okay.
Within hours, David was rushed to Memorial Hermann Downtown for emergency surgery. Doctors described his spleen as “shredded.” He also suffered fractured ribs and two fractured vertebrae. Following surgery, he has struggled to breathe without oxygen support and is silently aspirating when drinking water, requiring a feeding tube.
David is now fighting for his life.
We are asking for two kinds of help:
1. Help Us Find the Driver
If you witnessed anything that night — even if David appeared to be okay afterward — please come forward. Your information could make all the difference.
If you were in the area of Hwy 90 and Herndon around 9:40 PM on February 17 and saw a man on a scooter who had been hit, please contact the Rosenberg Police Department at [phone redacted].
If you are the driver, there is still time to do the right thing.
2. Help Support David and His Family
David is a devoted husband and family man. He was simply bringing home groceries when this happened. The road ahead will include a long recovery, extensive medical care, and significant financial strain from hospital bills and time away from work.
Any donation — no matter the size — will go directly toward:
Emergency surgery and hospital expenses
Ongoing medical care and rehabilitation
Supporting his family during this incredibly difficult time
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page. Sharing may help us find witnesses and bring accountability, and it also helps relieve some of the financial burden his family now faces.
Our family is heartbroken, but we are holding onto hope.
Thank you for standing with David.
