My name is David Smith, I am a PhD student at the German Sports University in Cologne, Germany. My PhD is in the field of sport and exercise science and psychology, with a research focus on Visuomotor Calibration along with other work. I am currently in the final phase of my PhD work, which includes presenting and sharing the research and work i've done with others in my field.
I have been invited to present my work and professional knowledge at one of the largest conferences in the field of sport psychology, FEPSAC 2024 in Innsbruck, Austria on July 15th-19th. FEPSAC is hosted every two years and brings together all the biggest names in sport and exercise psychology from all over Europe. It is the "who's who" in sport psychology, and as we all have learned, "it's not about what you know, it's who you know."
For FEPSAC 2024, I have been invited to be an active participant and present my work, research, and knowledge in four capacities...
- Chairmanship for a session of presentations.
- 60 Min Workshop on Psychology of LGBTQ+ Discrimination.
- Two Poster Presentations - One on Visuomotor Calibration research and One on my Gay Games case study.
I am very honored and excited to be offered such an opportunity to present my work and chair a session with some of the most important people in the field of sport psychology, this experience has the potential to really advance my career. In addition to my own presentations and work, the conference is chock full of sessions with some of the smartest people for which I can best learn from.
Unfortunately, the costs of attending the conference are well outside my budget as an unfunded PhD student. Despite attempts for support from the conference itself as well as my university, I am fresh out of luck. Thus, I am raising funds here on GoFundMe to ask for your support and sponsorship to help me attend FEPSAC 2024.
The breakdown of costs for attending include
$500 - Conference Registration.
$800-$1000 - Accomodation
$200-$400 - Round Trip Travel between Köln and Innsbruck
$500 - Food and Misc Costs.
This would also be my very first time visiting Austria as well and especially that Innsbruck is an Olympic City, which gets me one step closer to (1) visiting all the countries in Europe and (2) visiting all the cities that hosted the Olympics.
As you know, I have been busting my ass to make things happen through grad school since moving to Germany. I was previously invited to present at the 2024 ENYSSP conference last May in Talinn, Estonia but had to forgo that one due to lack of funds (the photo is from 2023 ENYSSP). So being able attend this years' FEPSAC to present my work and connect with other professionals is really important for me, I hope you will help me get to Innsbruck!
