My name is Jenny Jones, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help for my beloved father, David Ferris. On October 10, 2024, our lives were turned upside down. My dad, known for his generosity and love for his family, offered to ride his nephew’s newly purchased motorcycle from Santa Rosa to Millbrae, CA—an hour-and-a-half trip. Just five minutes from reaching his destination, he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The collision was catastrophic, throwing him over the handlebars and pinning him under the weight of the bike.

He was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, where emergency teams fought tirelessly to save his life. The accident left him with severe injuries: a broken shoulder, a shattered collarbone, a punctured lung, and seven broken ribs. The trauma to his lungs was so devastating that he has been on a ventilator and life support for five weeks now. One of the hardest realities we face is the uncertainty—whether he will ever regain the ability to speak.

For those who know David, you’ll remember how he filled every moment with warmth and humor. He could light up any room with his jokes and playful spirit. One of his greatest joys was spending time with me, my sister Natalie, and his grandson, teaching us how to speak in funny accents until we were all in tears of laughter. The idea that we may never hear his voice again or share those moments breaks our hearts in ways we never imagined.

This has been an indescribable struggle for my mother, my sister, and me. We have been by his side every single day, willing him to fight through this, holding onto hope as tightly as we can. But the journey ahead is daunting. His recovery will require specialized care, extensive therapy, and ongoing oxygen treatment, much of which Medicare doesn’t cover. The weight of these costs is more than we can bear alone.
