My name is Ernesto, and I am a science teacher in Spanish for middle school students in the United States. I came to this country with my family in 2017, looking for a better future for my children. Since then, I have worked hard every day so that they can study, grow, and become independent young adults.
In 2022, we had to move to a different state after our original visa expired. I was fortunate to find a new teaching position, and with it, we began the process of applying for permanent residency. However, this process takes time, and my son David is facing a challenge that cannot wait.
David will turn 21 in July 2026. When that happens, he will no longer be covered under my H-1B visa. To stay legally in the U.S. and continue his studies, he will need to change his status to a student visa (F-1). Otherwise, he would have to return to Ecuador — a country currently going through one of its most difficult moments in terms of safety and stability. We want to keep him safe and help him pursue his dream of becoming a doctor.
To apply for the F-1 visa, we must show proof that we can cover the full cost of his university program — over $40,000. This amount represents more than we can afford as a family of educators.
David is a hardworking, kind, and dedicated young man who wants to serve others through medicine. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help him stay in the U.S., continue his education, and move one step closer to his dream.
