Help David Capture the Final Furnace Fest

Hi there!

My name is David Lawrence. I'm a portrait photographer who focuses on creating space for people to be their full selves. Last year, I took a trip to Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, AL for "Furnace Fest".

It's a music festival that started in 2001 and primarily focuses on the metal, punk, and rock scene. I had pitched to come and shoot analog portraits for 2 years in a row and finally, on the 3rd year, they said yes!

So, I hopped in my car, drove 8 hours, and literally took hundreds upon hundreds of images from the festival. You can see those here. I document concertgoers, bands, and everyone in between.

It was one of the most profound experiences to see people from all over the world come together to explore community through music in a small city in the South.

This year, I have the opportunity to do it again, but need some help. I have a place to stay, but need money for travel, film, and day-to-day things as I go about my journey.

This is also the last year of the festival, which will be super cool.

When I come back, I plan to open my studio and do a free art show. I want to show the world what I've documented and all the different music and adventure that is out in the world beyond us!
