In December of 2018, our Maternal Fetal Specialist gave us the news from my 10wk ultrasound that my third pregnancy would likely end in a miscarriage due to the presence of certain congenital abnormalities. We were devastated and awaited the worst. But month after month, and week after week, our son continued to live! A series of basic genetic testing all came back normal, and our hope began to regrow. Eventually, at the bidding of our heavenly Father, and with the amazing coordination of medical staff in two states, and with the support of both of our families in the Carolinas, we temporarily moved our family from Moore, Oklahoma to Huntersville, North Carolina in the middle of May in order to deliver our baby with the medical team at Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte. Happily, our son, David Alan Soroosh, was born ALIVE on July 2, 2019!
After his birth, he was immediately taken to the NICU and thoroughly evaluated by the medical team. They discovered that he has multiple abnormalities in the structure of his heart, which began to cause problems in his overall circulation within the first 7 days of his life. The cardiology team explained to us that he will likely need a series of three or four heart surgeries over the course of the first several years of his life, in order to correct and balance the circulation throughout his body.
He has just undergone the first of these - a procedure designed to close one of the holes in his heart in order to decrease the amount of blood going to his lungs, and to thereby increase the amount of blood going to the rest of his body. The primary goal of this procedure would be that he could begin to eat and grow steadily, in order to undergo the second procedure between the ages of 4-6 months.
While we do have excellent health insurance, we expect to have large out of pocket expenses and financial obligations related to David and Susanna's medical care, moving expenses, and to the childcare expenses for our other two children, Evelyn (4) and Elliott (1.5). Over the last few weeks, numerous friends and family have begun to ask us how they could help. While the most important thing our friends and family can do to support us is to pray (and we have been blown away by the huge outpouring of prayers) we have decided to set up a Go Fund Me for those who wish to contribute financially with these expenses.
