Help David as he recovers from a Heart Transplant

On September 29th 2021, my brother, David Fierro, went in to have a ”routine“ 4-hour Aortic Valve replacement procedure, which required open heart surgery. The plan was he would be out of the hospital in 2 days, and back at work in a little over 2 weeks. The surgery did not go as planned. 9 hours later, he emerged from surgery with 2 mechanical pumps placed in his heart, which were assisting his heart to continue beating. Things were very touch and go for about 2 weeks, and he was heavily sedated for most of that time. During this time, they attempted to remove the pumps from his heart (several times) and they were not able to do so. His kidneys also started to fail during this time, and he was put on a type of temporary dialysis.

We all prayed and sent healing thoughts everyday. After those first 2 weeks, things started looking up. The doctors started to wean down on some of the medications, and some of his blood tests showed signs of improvement. We were encouraged. However, his heart still could not tolerate the removal of the mechanical pumps.

The doctors carefully evaluated all the information in order to plan the next steps. Given the fact that his kidneys started to fail, and his heart was unable to keep in rhythm on its own, they recommended a heart and kidney transplant. Amazingly, he received both on October 22nd! He is currently still in the hospital and working to get stronger each and every day!
