Hello, my name is Geoff, and I'm reaching out for my younger brother, David.
Many of you might remember David from his childhood. In 1976, at just a young age, he became the youngest person ever to perform on Opportunity Knocks with Hughie Green—Episode 23, which aired on March 15, 1976. He shared the bill with acts like 60 Fingers In Harmony and Frankie Farrell. While no video footage survives, the record remains, and there's a treasured photo of him with our mother from that day.
David grew up to forge a career in IT security and networking. He worked remotely for years, serving UK businesses with skills that many relied upon, even though this independent work came without medical benefits or safety nets. Determined to stay working rather than claim unemployment, he eventually married a wonderful woman from a remote village in Thailand. Life was simple, they got by, but there were no savings for a health crisis.
The Crisis
David has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. The cancer has metastasized to his brain, leaving him with two tumors and paralysis on his left side. He can no longer work or use his left hand. The prognosis is approximately six months.
The Dilemma
Because David is a foreigner in Thailand, he does not qualify for free medical treatment. The costs, while not excessive by Western standards, are impossible for him and his wife to bear.
We desperately want him to return to the UK for NHS treatment, but David faces an impossible choice:
- If he stays in Thailand, he dies for lack of money, but he is surrounded by his wife and family
- If he returns to the UK, he faces potential homelessness (he has nowhere to live) and believes he would likely never see his wife again due to the UK's strict immigration barriers for foreign spouses. He has chosen to die with his family rather than die alone in the UK.
How You Can Help
I have helped David repeatedly over the years, finding him work, helping him relocate, but I have no savings or property left to sell. We need urgent financial support to cover his medical costs in Thailand, where treatment is available but must be paid for.
Any contribution will help cover:
- Ongoing cancer treatment and medication
- Hospital fees
- Basic living expenses as he cannot work
If you cannot donate but have connections that could help navigate UK immigration law to reunite him with care and his wife, or temporary housing in the UK, please reach out.
Thank you for reading. David spent his life helping others with their security; now we need to help secure his remaining time with dignity.
Note: This is a Genuine request for help. all funds will go to Davids support and Medical, and if he passes before funds run out, we will donate the funds to a Cancer charity.
