Davey is a sweet and scrappy 14-year-old cat who belonged to our elderly neighbor. When she was moved into assisted living, Davey was left behind, trapped in the house for days with no food except for treats. With the family’s permission, we entered the house to care for him, feeding him and letting him out at night as he was used to. As winter approached, the electricity was shut off and the temperature inside dropped to freezing. We tried for months to find him a new home, but with no luck—and we couldn’t bear to send him to a shelter, knowing how much love and care he still needed.
Even though we already have five cats of our own, we decided to take Davey in. We started getting him up to date on shots and veterinary care, but then he stopped eating and became very sick. After another vet visit, we learned he has a badly abscessed tooth and several more teeth that need to be removed. We are already stretched thin financially and saving to get our car fixed, so we’re not in a position to pay this bill. But we want to give Davey a new lease on life for his remaining years, and let him live with dignity and free from pain.
Thank you so much for any amount you are able to help with during this, the season of giving. You are helping a sick and elderly cat get the care he has long needed, so that he can thrive in his remaining days. It means so much to us, as we really try to treat all God’s creatures with the loving kindness they need.
