Help Dave’s Recovery

On Thursday, Dave was flown to Vancouver General Hospital for emergency spine surgery after being diagnosed with spinal fractures at WCGH.
During the dismantling of a timber post and beam structure a brace gave way and he was unable to jump out of the way of a falling beam.
He had spinal fusion surgery and has a fracture in his ankle and a bunch of bruises and cuts on his legs. Thankfully the ankle is a clean line and the ortho team says he can put weight on it and it doesn’t need to be in a cast.
His surgery was successful and went as planned without any complications. They used rods and screws to stabilize his spine and placed bone graph fragments with the objective of bone growing around the hardware over time to stabilize it more.
❤️❤️It’s a miracle Dave
can still walk!! His family breathe easier after he went for a small but successful test walk with the physiotherapist. It’s one thing to be told you should be able to walk post-op and another to actually know you can!
He has passed all his post-op checks so far, but still has a long recovery ahead of him. This means months off work, and additional trips to Vancouver. Ashley is also off work to be in Vancouver with Dave, and will need more time off to care for him. Any help is greatly appreciated!
