Help Dave Scanlon Stand up to Cancer !!
Donation protected
This is hard to say...but my brother has cancer. ...and not just any cancer ..bloody brain cancer. Those that know Dave will know he will not take this lying down (stubborn?? LOL). I now truly know the meaning of determination and positivity.
Since his diagnosis (Stage 4 Glioblastoma) late November 2021, our world has turned upside down. Only 6 weeks before, he celebrated the birth of his beautiful daughter Willow Ann. Dave also has Chris (11), Ethan (6), Eve (3) and bonus (grown-up) kids Kavan and Shaunagh.
At 43, the last thing he expected on his return to work after Paternity Leave was to partially lose his sight and undergo major brain surgeries in both December and January. Unfortunately, Dave was let go from his role, and as he was a Contract Worker, he did not have any health insurance or income protection. (To note, the company was very kind and covered him as long as they could)
While the rest of us struggle to even mention the C-word or contemplate the 'What ifs..' Dave is pushing on with his treatment and being the BEST dad and partner he can be. He has made positive changes for his welfare, like the food he eats and taking mindfulness and meditation seriously. His treatment is hard going - he gets very tired and a bit confused but thankfully not too sick. He is BLESSED with the support of Karen - she is his rock and the most amazing person I know. Karen is also now wearing a sparkler on her left ring finger, so that is something nice to look forward to !!!
The doctors told Dave last week (May '22) that he did not respond to Chemo, and they are hoping to start him on a more advanced course of treatment this month. My sister Liz is pushing the doctors to their limits to unearth unconventional treatments and is Dave's biggest advocate...(and the doctor's biggest pain in the ass LOL). We are also looking at 'alternative' treatment.... but this is costly.
Dave is adamant that he will overcome whatever challenge is set to him and wants to help other people that end up in the same unfortunate position that he currently finds himself in.
All we ask is that you donate what you can to help Dave in his fight so he can then in turn pay it forward.
Thank you,
